Grown men turn into screaming children. Mild moms become frenzied fans. Don''t blame them. These monstrous heavyweights from the US have the ability to do that to almost anyone.
After six years, some of the biggest names of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWET) are coming to Bangalore for a live performance. The RAW team and the SmackDown team are all set to drive the crowds crazy with their three-city live event tour of India.
Organised by DNA Networks, the show kicks off at the JN Stadium, New Delhi on November 21, followed by MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai, and November 23 at Palace Grounds, Bangalore.
Peter Hutton, vice president, programming and events, Taj Television confesses that he''s too old to be excited about it, "But these guys are international superstars with followers from Japan to South America. It''s tough to get them and we''re very pleased that they''ve agreed to come back to India."
There''s a reason it''s been so long since their last visit. The last time they were here, things didn''t go as planned. However, Hutton managed to convince them that roping in DNA would definitely improve organisation.
Hutton adds that there are huge expectations from the WWET management. Each show must live up to the image that WWET shows the world on television. "Whatever sport you follow, you always want to say `I was there''. This is a unique opportunity for fans to see the biggest names live -- possibly the only opportunity in the lifetime of some Indian fans," he adds.
If you''ve wondered if what you see on screen is real or choreographed, no point asking Hutton. Because he''s not telling. "You''ll have to come and see! This is going to be one of those occasions that everyone will want to be at and experience live."
While DNA and Total Sports Asia are co-ordinating the tour, Ten Sports, is the broadcast partner for the tour. Adds Hutton, "WWET is at the heart of our broadcast content in the Indian subcontinent. The WWET Superstars are revered by their fans in India. They also look at this as a way of connecting directly with their audiences."
